Till 2001: Holder of the Chair of International Business Law and Director of the Institute of Air and Space Law, University of Cologne. Lectured in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Japan, the Lebanon, the Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA.
Since 2001: Sole Practitioner and Member of Law Faculty of University of Cologne as Professor Emeritus.
Other Functions:

President of German Association for International Law. Chairman of the Board of German Institution of Arbitration (DIS).
Practice as parties' counsel, as mediator, and as arbitrator and president of arbitration tribunal in many national and international arbitration proceedings of the ICC, ICSID, NAFTA, UNCITRAL and others. President of London Court of International Arbitration 1993-1997; Panel Chairman of the United Nations Compensation Commission 1994-1996. President of Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, The Hague, 1984-1988.
Board of Directors of the International Institute of Space Law. Chairman of both German Commissions on Air and Space Law 1977-2001; Chairman of Working Group Air Law of International Chamber of Commerce 1979-2001;Chairman of Space Law Committee of the International Law Association 1985-2001; Board Member, European Centre for Space Law (ECSL) 1980-2001; Chairman, Intelsat, Panel of Legal Experts 1995-1999; Chairman of Council, German National Space Agency (DARA) 1990-1994.
