4. Final Draft of the Revised Convention on the Settlement of Disputes Related to Space Activities

4. a. Introductory Remarks

The International Law Association (ILA) adopted this Draft at its 68th Conference at Taipeh in 1998.

The 1984 Paris Conference had already adopted a preliminary Draft for a Convention on the Settlement of Space Law Disputes (see p. 3 et seq.). The ILA Space Law Committee under the chairmanship of Prof. Böckstiegel was given the mandate for the elaboration of a final Draft at the 1994 Buenos Aires ILA Conference which was endorsed and qualified by a resolution of the 1996 Helsinki ILA Conference and which finally led to the adoption of the Draft in 1998. The Final Draft takes into consideration the new developments of space activities and the advancement in international dispute settlement.

The Draft is published in:

  • Böckstiegel, Neue weltraumrechtlichen Arbeiten der International Law Association (ILA), German Journal of Air and Space Law (ZLW) 1998, p. 331 et seq.
