Our scientific interests:

We are interested in the chemistry and biochemistry of natural products from plants or microorganisms. The goal of our resarch is their analysis, isolation, structure elucidation and the determination of their biosynthesis.

A focus of our research during the last years has been on the iridals, cycloiridals and spiroiridals, unusual triterpenoids from sword lilies (Iridaceae). More than 30 of these mono- or bicyclic triterpenes and their fatty acid esters have been isolated so far (Marner, 1997). At present we

- prepare derivatives of the iridals in order to improve their separation and

identification by LC/MS and MS/MS

- continue to study new Iridaceae

Another project deals with the analysis of lipids from different organisms, especially phospholipids, with LC/MS.
