derived from the transgenic Acta2 embryonic stem cells)
List of Current Research Interests:
- Establishing of transgene embryonic
stem cell lineages that can be used for generation of pure population of
somatic cells (cardiomyocytes, smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells) and
mesodermal cells (BMP2+ and T-Bra+ cells). Identification of genes and gene
signatures specific for somatic and mesodermal cells applying large-scale gene
expression methodologies. Functional analysis of not annotated “unknown genes”
genes applying “gain of function” and “loss of function” molecular biology
methodologies in embryonic stem cells. Functional analysis of candidate genes
using the zebra fish model (in cooperation with the Department of Genetics,
University of Cologne).
-
Selective differentiation of embryonic stem
cells to different tissue specific cell types. Identification of small signal
molecules and signal transduction pathways promoting cardiomyogenesis
- Biochemistry and molecular biology of
the intracellular signaling transduction pathway of mitogenic signals in cells
participating in the development of proliferative diseases. Identification and
functional analysis of differentially expressed genes in proliferating cells
to characterize genes responsible for mitogenicity and malignant
transformation. Testing of various pharmacological substances with the purpose
of interrupting growth processes of either non-malignant proliferative
(cardiovascular) or malignant proliferative (tumour) processes.
