Birte Kathage has been lecturer at the Institute of African Studies (Institut für Afrikanistik, University of Cologne) since 2004. Her research interests lie in the area of Cognitive Semantics with particular focus on landscape conceptualisation. She has mainly worked on South-Western Bantu languages and has conducted fieldwork in Namibia, Botswana, Mali and Kenya. Since 2003 she has been an academic consultant and co-owner of ProWiss WissenschaftsBeratung GbR.
