International Contacts and Activities
International Contacts
The Department of Linguistics has many international contacts and research partners worldwide and cooperates with many different institutes on various research projects. Some of these include: the Max-Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen; the Department of Linguistics der Australian National University (College of Asia and the Pacific); Maison de l'Orient Méditerranéen (Lyon); the Department of Linguistics in Edinburgh; and the Department of Linguistics in the Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen.
Activities at the Department of Linguistics
The staff of the Department of Linguistics is actively involved in a number of multidisiplinary centres of research, such as:
- ZSM (Zentrum Sprachenvielfalt und Mehrsprachigkeit): The ZSM is an institute of learning and research of the Faculty of Arts. Language diversity and multilingualism have become important assets in modern societies. Language diversity leads to increased cultural diversity and encourages more flexible communication. Due to this, the promotion and furtherance of language diversity and multilingualism is an important issue for research, education and the economy.
- cedis (Center for Diversity Studies): Cedis is a multidisiplinary research and teaching network of the University of Cologne. Diversity is a natural result of global immigration and increased mobility, and it affects all aspects of society. For these reasons, diversity is the focus of research of cedis.
