An Archaeologist for Africa

Dr. Rudolph Kuper was a valued member of the Institute for Prehistoric Archaeology at the University of Cologne until his 65th birthday. He is the founder of the Heinrich-Barth-Institut and was elected and re-elected after eight years by the members of the institute as its first director. Since 1980 R. Kuper has lead many archaeological and interdisciplinary expeditions to the Sahara of Egypt, Sudan and Libya. The main focus of his interdisciplinary research are the causal links between climatic change and cultural development over the past 10000 years.
