OpenMath Home Page
The OpenMath Home Pages have moved to
http://www.can.nl/~abbott/OpenMath/. They are now being edited by John Abbott.
This page is the entry-point to an archive of old OpenMath Home Pages
edited by Andreas Strotmann.
Welcome to the OpenMath information pages.
Our goal is to provide as complete a collection
of information sources about OpenMath in particular and about efforts
in Distributed Computer Algebra in general. If you have pointers to
information missing in this collection, please do not hesitate to tell
us about it: E-mail to
Strotmann@rrz.Uni-Koeln.DE.

OpenMath Workshops
A series of workshops is being sponsored in part by the European Community's
HCM Network "Editing and Computing"
(aka
HCM Network OpenMath).
First OpenMath Workshop
The First OpenMath Workshop took place at the Institut für
Wissenschaftliches Rechnen of the ETH Zürich in December 1993.
A preliminary report on the
workshop was submitted to and discussed on the
OpenMath mailing list
(see below).
The Second OpenMath Workshop took place just before ISSAC'94 on
July 18 and 19, 1994 at St. Catherine's College, Oxford University.
Proceedings of the workshop
are available from
Prof. Dr. G. Gonnet
Institut für Wissenschaftliches Rechnen
ETH-Zentrum
CH-8092 Zürich
Much of the material from the proceedings is available online.
Third OpenMath Workshop
The 3rd OpenMath Workshop took place at RIACA (Research Institute for
Applications of Computer Algebra) in Amsterdam on February 9 and 10,
1995.
Copies of slides presented at the workshop are available on paper from
RIACA (e.g. by
e-mail request to riaca@can.nl) and
online here.
Fourth OpenMath Workshop
The 4th OpenMath Workshop took place September 1-2, 1995, in Copenhagen.
The "proceedings" are being made available here.
Fifth OpenMath Workshop
Announcement:
The fifth OpenMath Workshop will be on held on Friday and
Saturday, January 12 and 13, 1996, at the University of Bath,
Bath, UK. The local coordinator for this workshop will be
James H. Davenport.
A detailed programme will be distributed several weeks before
the workshop. It is anticipated that demonstrations of prototype
OpenMath implementations will be available and that several talks
will discuss details of the OpenMath Definition document.
The preliminary programme of the
workshop as well as travel and
accomodation information are available
in a separate page.
Future OpenMath Workshops
The OpenMath HCM
network home page contains information on OpenMath workshops planned for
the near future.
OpenMath Working Groups and Mailing Lists
Note: The automatic listserver for OpenMath mailing lists is
currently out-of-order.
OpenMath
One result of the first OpenMath Workshop was the installation of a
mailing list to discuss it on. To join this discussion, please
send an e-mail message containing the line subscribe
to
openmath-request@can.nl. By sending the line
index to the same address you can retrieve a list of files
making up the archive of the discussion going on on that list.
A hypertext version of the mail archive (automatically up-dated) is
available at CAN.
OpenMath Steering Committee
The OpenMath Steering Committee may be reached by sending e-mail to
openmath-sc@can.nl.
OpenMath Objectives
At the Second OpenMath Workshop it was decided that a small group
should work out a proposal on OpenMath Objectives. The result is a
paper on "Objectives of OpenMath".
Version 0.6.4 (14-Jan-1995) of that paper was discussed at the
third OpenMath workshop.
It is available as
PostScript, as
compressed PostScript, as a
LaTeX source file (it requires the PostScript
figures native.eps and
tree.eps), and as browsable
hypertext.
The current version of the paper (0.8.5 , 30-Mar-1995) has been submitted
to the Journal of Symbolic Computation. It is available as browsable
hypertext, as
PostScript, as
compressed (gzip'ed) PostScript, as a
LaTeX source file (it requires the PostScript
figure sinjsc.eps and the
JSC LaTeX style
file).
This proposal is being discussed on a small mailing list. The archive
of the discussion that went on on that mailing list is available as
Hypertext
(automatically kept up-to-date by the list server)
or by sending the E-mail message index to
openmath-obj-request@can.nl.
OpenMath Standardization Committee
It was also decided that a small group should join the Objectives group
to discuss and propose a further draft version of an OpenMath standard based
on the principles developped by the Objectives group.
The mailing list archive for this group is available as
hypertext
(automatically kept up-to-date by the list server)
or by sending the E-mail message index to
openmath-dev-request@can.nl.
OpenMath Communications Committee
The mailing list archive for the Communications committee is available as
hypertext
(automatically kept up-to-date by the list server)
or by sending the E-mail message index to
openmath-comms-request@can.nl.
The OpenMath Communications Committee Report is available as
gzip'd LaTeX source file (14 kB), as a
DVI file (49 kB), and as a
gzip'd PostScript file (41 kB).
OpenMath Implementation Efforts
Currently, there is only the preliminary implementation by Stefan
Vorkoetter of MapleSoft available at
ftp://maplesoft.on.ca/pub/openmath/sample/.
A demo of a link between Maple and REDUCE using an prototype OpenMath
implementation was presented at the
third OpenMath workshop.
Access statistics:
brief and
long.
