Prof. Eveliina Peltola, PhD

Member of the Global Faculty

Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at Aalto University, Finland

Eveliina Peltola graduated in 2012 from the Department of Mathematics at Helsinki University and received her PhD in 2016 with a thesis in mathematical physics, combining quantum groups and quantum field theory with random geometry. From 2016 to 2019, she worked as a postdoc at the University of Geneva focusing on problems at the crossroads of random geometry and conformal field theory. In 2019, she was appointed as a Bonn Junior Fellow (W2 professor) at the Hausdorff Center of Mathematics and at the Institute of Applied Mathematics at the University of Bonn. From 2021 to 2025, she combined this position with a professorship at the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at Aalto University, Finland, where she now continues to hold her position.

She works at the crossroads of mathematics and theoretical physics, combining analytic, algebraic, geometric, and probabilistic methods to tackle questions related to conformal field theory, random geometry, and scaling limits. She is a mathematician particularly interested in problems motivated by physics, such as conformal field theories, integrable models, semiclassical limits, and scaling limits of random planar lattice models, and understanding the underlying algebraic, geometric, and stochastic structures. She leads an ERC starting grant and several grants from the Academy of Finland, and has been a PI for the German Research Foundation. She is an invited member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.
