  • Hit button for details
  • The Transformation Analysis is based on the sortation of lithic artefacts (especially flint artefacts) according to macroscopic features to varieties (raw material sources) or even to original nodules. This methodologic approach was developed by the German archaeologist W. Weissmüller on the lithic material of the lower layers of the middle Paleolithic site Sesselfelsgrotte in Bavaria (Germany).

  • The Analysis of Operational Chains was developed by J. Richter and A. Pastoors in order to evaluate the transformation processes of bifacial and unifacial surface shaped tools as well as cores. This approach was developed to receive a more fundamental understanding of the biography of such artifacts, including preparation and rework sequences as well as the change of usage and function within single chaînes opératoires.
