A seven-person delegation from University of Science and Technology of China visited Cologne
On May 6th, a delegation from University of Science and Technology of China visited the University of Cologne and had meetings with the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The delegation includes Prof. LIU Lianxin, the Vice President of USTC and President of the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, professors from the hospital, and representatives from the Office of International Affairs.
In the morning, Prof. LIU and professors from the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC first had the meeting with Dr. Evelyn Plamper, the former Head of Corporate Development University Hospital Cologne, Dr. Benjamin Köckemann, Head of the Center for International Relations, Faculty of Medicine, and PD Dr. ZHAO Yue, Scientific Head of Surgical Research Lab, University Hospital Cologne. They discussed about the possibility of sending Cologne medical students to the affiliated hospital for clinical internship. Afterwards, Prof. Christiane Bruns, Director of Clinic and Polyclinic for General, Visceral, Thoracic and Transplant Surgery, received the the delegation by giving a welcome presentation. The delegation also visited PD Dr. Rabi Datta's VR and Robotic Surgery Lab. Both sides are engaged to strengthen the scientific research and educational cooperation in clinical medicine, teaching and training in digital simulated surgery.
In the meantime, Prof. CHENG Guanglei, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation USTC and Ms. QIU Lin visited the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Prof. Christina Bogner, Vice Dean for International Affairs, Prof. Paul van Loosdrecht from the Institute of Physics II, Dr. Christine Benn, Deputy Managing Director Dean‘s Office, and Dr. Susanne Preuschoff, Head of Department “International Students”, presented University of Cologne and listened to the presentation of USTC. The discussion mainly focused on promoting the undergraduate mobility in the frame of summer research camps between the School of Physics of USTC and the Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Sciences UoC, as well as the opportunities for cooperation, especially in condensed matter physics.
